Retail Merchandising is such an important topic. Often called Visual Merchandising…but what is it?
Here’s my definition. Visual Merchandising is presenting, arranging and displaying products in a way that catches the shopper’s eyes, encourages them to pick up the product, and ultimately buy the merchandise.
Are you asking yourself these questions?
Where will I put the new stock? Why aren’t customers buying? How do I make my store look better?
Is my lighting affecting sales? What is the placement of product on the shelf? Can I do it better? Are my fixtures in the right place? Am I having issues around sight lines? Are they affecting my sales?
Do I know the benefits of Space Management and how it affects my bottom line? What garments should be hung? When do I fold garments? How much wall should I see? What are adjacencies? …
If you are asking any of these questions or others – I can help you!
This training session ‘Merchandising Rules 101’ will be the BEST THING you do to improve your bottom line. While every retail establishment might have its own unique set of performance goals and objectives, online training can always offer an interactive and effective training solution that achieves measurable results.
Five benefits of this on-line Merchandising 101 Workshop
- Employees stay up-to-date with the latest products and merchandising skills.
- Improved employee retention.
- Employees who are well informed and have access to training materials are typically happier. The retail sector is well known for its high turnover rates and one of the benefits of online training in the retail sector is that it can help employees to increase retention rates by giving them the knowledge and skills they need to fulfill their job responsibilities.
- Increased sales and customer satisfaction
- Stores that are ‘easy to shop’ lead to an increase in customer satisfaction and buyer confidence, which results in higher sales and profits. It’s a domino effect, beginning with a sound training in merchandising.
- More knowledge retention
- Online training requires less money and time, but it leads to greater knowledge retention. There is no longer a need for on-site instructors or lengthy training events. This means that employers pay less out-of-pocket for training implementation and for staff training hours. Employees are also more likely to actually retain the information they have received. Online training can be fully customized with every session retailer receiving only the information he/she needs to get the job done. If you are a gift retailer or a fashion retailer…we can customize this session for you.
- Gives employees access to information when and where they need it the most.
- Last but not least, one of the most important benefits of online training in the retail sector is that online training can take place anywhere, anytime, thanks to mobile learning. They have confidence in knowing that they can carry out their job responsibilities equipped with the knowledge required, without having to continually turn to mangers or colleagues for help.
And if that isn’t enough….
Following this session you will be sent a PDF Merchandising Rules handbook – a ready-made training aid to begin your own Merchandising Manual, and one which will serve as an ongoing reference.
This session is extremely valuable for both in-town or out-of-town retailers, being as it is cost & time effective.

Quick Tip: Product Categories & Adjacencies
Before you can begin merchandising you need to be aware of what product categories you have purchased. You can attract many new customers into your store, but if when it is a mishmash of merchandising that takes too long to figure out…you will lose them. That is where Product Categories and Adjacencies come into play.
Sometimes product is organized by end use, other times it is by Brand, and sometimes it is both.
Adjacencies are really a question of how you move through different category areas within the store in a manner that makes sense to the customer. An overwhelmed shopper never becomes a customer. They just leave!
