Retail Design for Tourism
This incredible place on the Tutshi River is a major tourist attraction to visitors from both Skagway Alaska, and Whitehorse, Yukon. Urban Spaces Design team initially visited the space as Consultants. The building was totally bare bones. To keep with the historical value we sourced items from the Gold Rush era of the 1890’s to use as fixtures throughout the Gift Store and Café. The hanging fixtures were made locally from hand-peeled lodge-pole pine and the tables for product were authentic, and included items like meat block tables, and pie cupboards. The tools were hung on the exterior and also included as props inside the shops. We came up once a season to merchandise the product, and to ensure that the space plan allowed the hundreds of thousands of visitors a clear path throughout the space.
